Off-the-shelf solar installation added to Lowe's offerings
Solar panel manufacturer and installer Akeena has said it will provide its residential installation services through the retail giant Lowe’s in California.
Akeena, which has its head office in the state, at Los Gatos, will offer its installation services for customers at 21 Lowe’s stores in California.
The new service comes a few months after the company made its Andalay AC solar panels available as an off-the-shelf product at Lowe’s Energy Centers, the first grid-connected solar power systems to be offered by a major retailer.
Akeena CEO Barry Cinnamon said Lowe’s customers now had the option of installing their own panels or use Akeena’s professional installers.
Mr Cinnamon said: “Akeena Solar has always focused on making solar power easy — and therefore more accessible for customers. Now that homeowners can see Andalay AC solar panels on the shelves at Lowe’s, there is even more interest in installing solar for their own homes.”

Akeena’s Andalay Alternating Current (AC) solar systems include their racking, wiring, grounding and inverters integrated into the panels.
The firm says this means they are protected against reliability problems and can also produce up to 25% more power than Direct Current (DC) solar panels.
The modular design also means homeowners can start with a small system and easily expand it, said Akeena.
Mr Cinnamon said: “Lowe’s and Akeena Solar give homeowners the flexibility they need to get reliable solar energy and immediately decrease their electric bills.”
Lowe’s launched its Energy Centers at 21 California stores back in December, with the Andalay solar panels part of the Centers’ line-up of clean energy and efficiency products.
Plans are afoot to expand the Energy Centers to other US and Canadian stores later this year.
